Presented by Anicet Mbida, the innovation of the day is a box that automatically calls for help in the event of a motorcycle accident.

It is a small box with movement sensors, hidden under the saddle. As soon as the motorcycle hits something or overturns at high speed, it automatically alerts the SAMU by giving the GPS coordinates of the accident. This saves a lot of time. And even to save lives, if the person is unconscious in a completely isolated place. It is a device that was only found on some high-end motorcycles. The good news is that even scooters and small 125s will soon benefit.

It also exists on cars!

Yes, we call it "eCall". In Europe, it is mandatory on all cars sold since 2018. It is a system that must gradually replace all the emergency call stations that there are at the roadside.

It is known to reduce the severity of accidents, because interventions are faster. But strangely, it is still not mandatory on motorcycles or scooters. While on two wheels, accidents often have more important consequences: only 2% of traffic, but almost half of serious accidents.

Why is it not mandatory?

For several reasons. But mainly because of the price and the reliability. On a car, the system is triggered at the same time as the airbag. So there is no doubt. While a motorbike can fall to a stop. The OEMs have successfully perfected the system. Bosch has even just presented a case at very low cost. This should allow installation everywhere. And maybe even relaunch the European Commission to make it mandatory on motorcycles.
