In South Korea, compulsory military service is valid for 21 months before reaching the age of 28, unless a sufficient athletic success has been achieved before. In September 2018, Son led his South Korea to a win in the Asian Championships, and thus managed to avoid serving.
But when the corona hit and paralyzed the world and the Premier League was turned around, Son was forced to go home to South Korea and end his duty. But for some 21 months it will not be for the South Korea. After winning the Asian Championships, Son was made with a promise of only having to participate for 21 days.

Son has been on the scene since mid-April and if he can get back to England and his Tottenham just before the restart on May 18 remains to be seen. He will also be quarantined for fourteen days when he arrives in London.
