A close source said that English football club Chelsea will resort to extending the contract of French international striker Olivier Giroud for an additional year until June 2021.

The 33-year-old Jiro's contract with the London club expires in June, with the option to extend an additional year.

After arriving at the "Blues" from the rival Arsenal in January 2018, Jiro struggled to find a place in the starting lineup for Chelsea, which led him to consider leaving the club. However, he succeeded in persuading coach Frank Lampard to use his services, especially with the beginning of this year before the suspension of the Premier League competition since mid-March due to the outbreak of the Corona virus, which was emerging.

Giroud, the third best scorer in the history of the 2018 World Cup roosters, is still a strong contender in the starting lineup of coach Didier Deschamps around a year ago for the European Cup 2020 that was postponed to 2021.

With 38 goals in 95 appearances for France, Giro is third on the scorers list, behind Michel Platini (41) and Thierry Henry (51).
