The European Football Association (UEFA) has issued a "solid recommendation" to end local competitions in continental leagues that have been suspended due to the emerging Corona virus. This came during today's meeting via video calling technology, which included representatives of the 55 members of the European Union.

"There is a solid recommendation to end first-class tournaments and domestic cup competitions, but there are some special cases that will be studied when a perception is reached regarding participation in European competitions in relation to the canceled tournaments," the continental union said in a statement, in an allusion to the Belgian championship It may not resume its activity.

The Belgian Football Association announced in late March a recommendation to stop the domestic league permanently, and it was criticized by the Continental Federation, which was considered "early and unjustified", to take any decision to stop any local championship threatening to exclude the association that does so.

In a letter he sent to the continental federations after the Belgian Federation’s recommendation, the Slovenian European Union President Alexander Ceverin said he was “confident” regarding the resumption of football activity “in the coming months.”

Several countries intend to resume activities in their local championships behind closed doors in order to save the revenues of television transport, including Germany, where the League League will meet Thursday, hoping to obtain a green light from the government to resume activity as of May. The Italian League also announced on Tuesday that all clubs have expressed their approval to resume competitions and confirmed, through a unanimous vote of the 20 participating clubs, their intention to complete the sports season 2019-2020.

Chevirin considered that the resumption of competitions would be an important step towards returning to normal life and avoiding the huge financial losses of the championships.
"I think there are options that could allow us to resume and complete the leagues and cup competitions," Ceferin said in an interview with the Italian newspaper "Corriere della Sera" yesterday. "We may have to resume the matches without an audience, but the most important thing is to play the matches," he added.

The European Union meeting was the first Tuesday in a series of meetings held by the European Union to hold another meeting on Wednesday with the European Clubs Association and the European Leagues Association.
The European Union indicated that it would then meet via video on Thursday morning to "assess the situation and discuss the latest developments regarding the impact of the Covid-19 virus pandemic on European football."
