The Swedish hockey season came to a close. Everything was laid on ice and the season ended after the corona virus entered the Swedish society.

In the long run, it affects the finances of the elite clubs and several associations are expected to make big negative results when the financial statements are published.

The Swedish Hockey Association decided on Wednesday that the requirement for equity will not be applied in the licensing test for the 2020/2021 season. On the other hand, all clubs in connection with the licensing test must also submit a plan to ensure the liquidity of the association. That decision was welcomed by Malmö Redhawks CEO Patrik Sylvegård.

Want the regulations to be reviewed

SVT Sports expert Jonas Andersson is on the same track.

- I think it is absolutely right and necessary precisely because it is such uncertainty in these times. Then, in the slightly longer term, I also think that one must review equity. It's a pretty poor yardstick. Liquidity needs to be checked more, which is what matters for the stability of the associations. I hope you do, "he says.

Andersson develops his reasoning.

- Liquidity is a little more complex and what really matters. I think there should be some requirements, but you should review the regulations and fine-tune it so that it performs properly. My position is that regardless of whether it was coronatids, it is bad to just stare blind at equity.

The call for action: Don't budget with playoffs

SVT Sports's expert is also aware that the clubs in SHL should also not budget with end games.

- Had I been to Frölunda, Luleå and Färjestad I would have been pretty sure to get some playoff games. But it is a tight series and from a risk perspective it is crazy to budget with a long play that the series is designed. You should still be top six. Everyone should reasonably set budget just for basic series. It's easy to say in theory, but there's a reality too. I do not mean to reduce the financial slump that has become. After all, there is no revenue for many SHL teams, there is no talk of the matter.
