Last month, Alexander Ovetjkin posted a video on Instagram where he played the video game NHL20, with his son in his lap.

That video gave Wayne Gretzky an idea. He called a Washington Capitals leader, and asked if it would be possible to play against Ovetjkin.

Best of three matches

Now it will get rid of. Next Wednesday the duo will meet in a series of the best of three matches, which will be called “The Great One vs. The Great Eight Showcase ”and broadcast live on Capital's Twitch channel. At the same time, those watching the match will be able to donate money to two charities, which raise money to support those affected by the corona virus's progress.

- There has been so much talk about the goal record (Ovetjkin, with 706 goals, chases Gretzky's record of 894), so there is a nice connection between Alex and me. So I thought we could do something that people can look at and help raise money for those in need, "Gretzky told the Washington Post.

E-sports pros should play

However, the duo will not play alone. Ovetjkin will play alongside e-sports professional John "JohnWayne" Casagranda (who has a contract with Washington Capital's Gaming brand), and Gretzky with his 19-year-old son Tristan.

- It will be a fun evening and is for a good cause. We're not doing this to replace the NHL, because we all want to see guys like Alex, Sidney (Crosby) and (Connor) McDavid back on the ice. That's what people really like, says Gretzky, whose goal with the match is clear:

- My dad always said, "If you are going to play, then you might as well win."
