In modern cycling, not many riders ride all three major tours (Tour de France, Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España). Some cyclists run two and only a few top names do all three. But usually they enter the season with proper build up of smaller races and competitions in the back.

- The World Tour team has up to 30 cyclists in their stables. Probably you will have three sets of riders who run when the competitions are supposed to be so close, says Fredrik Kessiakoff, who himself has run all three tours during his career.

"Tour de France is at risk"

He sees no disadvantage for the competitions in itself as the calendar is pushed forward this year, but flags that there are many question marks left to straighten out regarding all logistics around travel and which countries can participate, depending on how the situation with the Corona infection looks in the world.

- We do not actually know when you can get started and compete again. The President of France urged the organizers to advance the competition, the Tour de France is very important for France so you see the benefit of driving and not setting up too soon. But I think there is a risk that the international calendar will not start until the end of September, and then the Tour de France is at risk.

And what do cyclists think of this arrangement?

- In the past, it seemed that it was time for a month to recover, now it may be days. I definitely see a risk of any "grand tour" being canceled.
