The downhill race in Norwegian Kvitfjell proved to be the last Alpine competition for the men. Due to the corona pandemic, the technology competitions in Kranjska Gora were canceled and also the World Cup final in Italian Cortina.

But French star Alexis Pinturault would have liked to have seen the decision to end the season prematurely.

- The season would have ended after the races in Hinterstoder when it was a fair situation where the skiers and technicians had run the same number of races. After the competition in Norway it was not so, he says.

Ahead of the competition in Norway, Alexis Pinturault led the overall World Cup but was chased by Aleksander Aamodt Kilde. And the Norwegian took second place in the downhill race and went around the Frenchman in the total with 54 points. What they didn't know then was that that position would be the end result.

"He ran out in some competition too much"

Source tells VG that afterwards he received comments that the overall victory was not fair as he took fewer World Cup victories during the season than Pinturault did.

- I see that there are many comments that Pinturault won more competitions, I understand that. But at the same time, it is about being stable throughout the season and he ran out in some competition too much, and it became expensive, Kilde tells the magazine.

Understand the decision

Although Pinturault never got the chance to take back the lead in the overall World Cup, he understands why the decision to end the season came after the race weekend in Norway.

- Everyone had hoped to go to Kranjska Gora, but the spread of the corona virus went faster than many thought and therefore the season ended faster than planned, he says.
