The Corona pandemic has put a stop to almost all football worldwide. Right now, only league football is played in Belarus, Tajikistan, Burundi and Nicaragua.

The International Football Association (Fifa) emphasizes that they want to encourage all countries and tournaments to put health first.

- I can't stress that enough. No match, no competition, no league is worth risking a single human life for, "Fifa chairman Gianni Infantino said in a video message.

Must be 100 percent safe

It is unclear when the big football leagues in Europe can continue. The Bundesliga may be up and running again in May, but the head of German league football, Christian Seifert, does not believe in any matches with the public before 2021.

- It would have been more than irresponsible to force competitions to continue if it is not 100 percent safe, says Infantino.

- If we have to wait a little longer, we will. It is better to wait than to take some risks, he continues.

Turkmenistan resumes the season on April 19, thus joining a small crowd of nations playing football in the midst of the corona crisis.

Infantino believes that football associations that are struggling financially because of the pandemic will get help from Fifa.

- We are in a very strong financial position, but our reserves are not Fifa's money. It's the money of football. So when football is in need, we have to think about what we can do to help. It is our responsibility and our duty, he says.
