It is a small sum for the fight against the coronavirus but a great gesture of humanity on the part of Pep Guardiola. The Manchester City coach donated one million euros to buy medical equipment in Spain, which has been severely hit by the pandemic.

The former FC Barcelona coach gave the money to the medical college in Barcelona to buy "medical equipment that is currently lacking in care centers in Catalonia," the organization said in a statement. The donation will also be used to purchase ventilators for patients and protective equipment for health workers in this region of northern Spain where Pep Guardiola is from.

Messi also donated

The Barcelona hospital clinic said it had received a donation from the six-fold Golden Ball Lionel Messi, captain of FC Barcelona. "Thank you Leo for your support and your commitment," reacted the clinic on Twitter.

The Argentine star's donation would also amount to a million euros, according to the Catalan sports daily Mundo Deportivo . Spain is one of the countries most affected by the coronavirus pandemic with 2,696 deaths and nearly 40,000 people infected, according to the latest figures released on Tuesday. The country is entirely confined.
