The ski season was closed after the World Cup sprint in Konnerud. It was Eirik Brandsdal's last competition. There, the 33-year-old finished third in a competition won by Johannes Hösflot Kläbo.

Now the qualified rider has decided to quit.

- The time has come, I've decided to quit, says cross-country skier Eirik Brandsdal via his own Instagram account.

In a press release, which is also a reflection of Brandsdal's Instagram post, he says goodbye.

- It will be a new day when I will no longer use all my energy to get the best skiing experience possible. I've been dreading this day. It still feels right to have made that decision. I've almost always been hungry to get better. Now I do not feel the same hunger, and then I believe that younger forces deserve to let go. I am extremely proud to have been a part of the cross country team for the past ten years. I have experienced so much and been part of a fantastic performance environment, where I have been able to develop. The season this year got a special ending and cross country skiing becomes insignificant in this regard. I'm still happy that I ended the season with a real run-up during the World Cup in Konnerud in March, concludes Brandsdal.
