The LFP slightly revised its judgment Monday evening, in the context of a coronavirus pandemic where the truth of one day is rarely that of the next. While it stated last week its ambition to end the Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 seasons on June 30, the Professional Football League finally opened the door to a championship end on July 15.

At the end of a meeting of the LFP Board of Directors' office, the latter unanimously "recalled the priority objective of ending the season by 30 June 2020 or possibly 15 July, "said the League in a statement.

“We have given ourselves the major principle of doing everything to end June 30. The objective is 30, but if we have to finish beyond that, we will adapt, with the clubs and the players. We will play as much as possible, "said the executive director of the body, Didier Quillot, on Tuesday.

The decision of UEFA, announced last Tuesday, to shift the European Championship to the summer of 2021 offers new possibilities on the calendar for domestic and international competitions to end, once the coronavirus pandemic has ended football stopped.

Football sails by sight

But the question of the end of the season comes up against several unknowns: first on its resumption date, linked to health risk, then on the calendar, because 23 dates will have to be found over a short period, between the championship matches , the Champions League and the Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue finals.

"The Bureau will also support all government initiatives that will allow high-performance athletes to be able to train again as soon as possible," added the LFP press release.

"In addition, the Bureau hopes that discussions will begin to adopt a common position on the dialogue between the clubs and the UNFP (the union of professional players, editor's note), which represents the players," said the LFP, then that several player contracts expire on June 30 and that several Ligue 1 clubs have decided to use short-time working.
