• Virtus: controversial return to training

Bilbao Basket announced on Monday that it has opened a disciplinary file against Tyler Haws for making the decision to return to the United States. The American escort, although born in Belgium, has thus contravened the instructions issued by the Biscayan entity, which established that all the players on the squad must remain in Bilbao during the break in the competition forced by the pandemic.

The player has gone to Utah , where his wife and two children reside. As reported by 'El Correo', the family's forecast (before the coronavirus crisis erupted, of course) was to meet in Bilbao this week, something that logically has not occurred. There is also the circumstance that a 5.7 scale earthquake occurred in said state.

The club has pointed out in its statement that it understands the decision "at a difficult time for everyone, even more so for those who are far from their families," but stresses that Haws, unlike the rest of his teammates, has ignored the indications of the club and therefore must open the required file. Something that, they emphasize, "is not pleasant in these difficult times for everyone."

Unlike other ACB clubs, such as Fuenlabrada and Obradoiro , which have given their foreigners permission to move to their countries of origin, Bilbao Basket understands that the best thing is for their players not to move from Bilbao. Something that the rest of the staff led by Álex Mumbrú is fulfilling.

Bilbao Basket has adopted this policy because it works with the scenario that the ACB League will resume on April 24 , which is the official date of return to competition at the moment. They assume that the hiatus is likely to last longer, but they understand that they must work with that perspective and that their players will go to other countries, they may have difficulties in getting back on time. If that scenario were to be modified, Bilbao Basket would rethink its indications about the possibility that its players temporarily move to their countries of origin.
