The outbreak of covid-19, the new coronavirus, has paralyzed sports swedes.

The list of series and end games that have been canceled has grown so long that it is now easier to make a list of the sporting events that actually get lost.

The bandy belongs to the latter category. For the weekend, the finals for women, men and youth will be decided on the classic Stundenternas IP in Uppsala. The matches will be played without an audience and the usual press conferences have been canceled before - you are all pointing out that the event will otherwise be canceled as planned.

"Bandy is an outdoor sport"

The reason is mainly that the clubs themselves have driven that they want to finish the season.

- The clubs agree that they want to play, and it was a decision that was made after the government announced the restrictions (max 500 people in a crowd). The stance is also based on the fact that bandy is an outdoor sport and that this is the end of our season, says bandy union chairman Per-Anders Gustafsson.

On the women's side, Västerås and Skutskär make up for the SM title. On the men's side Edsbyn is set against Villa Lidköping.

No "artist contract" in the bandy

If you, like hockey, hadn't started the playoffs, would you have thought otherwise?

- Yes it's possible. At that time, more associations had been involved with different perceptions. But those conditions don't apply, so it's no idea to speculate on it, Gustafsson says, adding:

- As I understand, the ice hockey's decision is also based on the foreign players signing their "artist contracts" that expire. So the situation in the bandy does not look right.

Is there anything that can change your decision?

- Yes, it would be that there will be a social decision that changes the regulations. Then of course we will follow it.
