HV71 won the basic series by far and immediately took hold of the SM finals. They won the first meeting against Luleå and had gold weathering. But after Sunday's announcement that the season has been canceled, the trip now comes to an abrupt end.

- We are all very taken by the message, I do not know what to say more. I suffer with the girls, says Jenni Asserholt, former player and development manager for the women's side, to SVT Jönköping.

"Should be awarded the gold"

The Swedish Ice Hockey Association made the decision to suspend further games because of the corona virus. This means that no SM champion will be appointed, neither on the women's side nor the men's side. Something that Asserholt doesn't think is right.

- That's where this message differs from the gentlemen. We have come further in the playoffs and should have actually been awarded the gold. That would have been fair, she says, and continues:

- We may not want to win that way, but when the situation is now as it is.

Instead of charging for the remaining finals, the season is now over for the team. What happens next is still unclear.

- I do not know. There are players who have outbound contracts, there will never be the same squad that can complete this. It's sad, Asserholt says.
