The coronavirus crisis is beginning to seriously affect car factories in Spain. The Nissan company in the Barcelona Free Zone has stopped its assembly racks since 17:00 this afternoon and has sent workers home due to lack of supplies due to the coronavirus. Since the Catalan plant does not produce over the weekend, the decision the company will make starting Monday remains to be seen.

The production stoppage comes after four mobilizations of the workforce in Barcelona in the last month and a half to demand a future plan for the Catalan plants, located in the Barcelona Free Zone, Montcada i Reixac and Sant Andreu de la Barca, and also those of Cantabria and Ávila.

The Free Trade Zone is currently at 20% of its capacity, with the manufacture of four vehicles: the NV-200 electric van, the Nissan Navara and Renault Alaskan pick-ups, and the Mercedes 'pick-up', which It will stop manufacturing in May.

For its part, the management of Seat has also informed the unions that production at the Martorell factory (Barcelona) will stop from Monday on the three assembly lines in anticipation of a lack of supplies due to the outbreak of coronavirus. The company will hold a meeting with the unions early next week to address.
