“The Ministry of Sports has become aware of the decisions that the World Athletics Council has adopted regarding VFLA. Noting the severity of the sanctions, we believe that in this situation it was important to maintain the status of the VFLA as a member of World Athletics, to enable the Federation to carry out reforms aimed at developing athletics in Russia and restoring full membership in World Athletics. The Ministry of Sports is ready to assist the Federation in implementing measures related to counteracting doping, as well as protecting the interests of pure athletes, ”reads the statement of the Ministry.
Also, the Ministry of Sports announced that they welcomed the decision of World Athletics to resume issuing clearance for domestic athletes.
“We separately welcome the decision of World Athletics to resume the procedure for admitting Russian athletes to international competitions in neutral status,” the statement said.
