On Wednesday, the government decided to stop all public gatherings with more than 500 people. The decision is not a recommendation but a sharp decision.

"It is a unique decision, no government has used this opportunity before," said Justice Minister Morgon Johansson at a government press conference.

Should anyone still organize an event with more than 500 people, the police have the power to dissolve it. It is also punishable by law and can provide fines or imprisonment for up to six months.

Affects sports events, concerts and demonstrations

The decision is valid from March 12 and until further notice. This affects sports events, concerts and demonstrations, among other things - if they gather more than 500 people.

Getting a stop on a serious spread of infection risk is the reason why the government can intervene and limit this type of gatherings with the support of the Ordinance Act.

- Hoping for understanding that such decisions must be made to stop the spread of infection, after all, nothing is more important than life and health, says Morgon Johansson.
