The president of the French football federation Noël Le Graët will continue to represent UEFA on the Fifa Council for the next three years, the European body announced after having proceeded on Tuesday in Amsterdam to the appointment of the leader, the only candidate in contention.

The seat was originally occupied by Rainer Grindel, the former president of the German Federation (DFB), who was forced to resign in April for accepting a valuable gift from the Ukrainian vice-president of UEFA Grigoriy Surkis. After his departure, Mr. Le Graët had returned to the vacant seat.

He was confirmed in his position at the ordinary Congress held by UEFA on Tuesday morning in the Dutch capital, for a three-year term. On this occasion, the other mandate abandoned by Mr Grindel, that of member of the UEFA executive committee, went to Rainer Koch, the current vice-president of the DFB, also the only candidate for this post, whose the term is for one year only.
