Bernard Lemaître has officially replaced Mourad Boudjellal at the head of the Toulon club, after the latter's resignation from his position as president, the club announced in a statement on Thursday. This decision follows the acquisition by Bernard Lemaître of almost all (99%) of the shares in the RCT, in which he had already been the majority shareholder since December 3.

Bernard Lemaître "proceeded to acquire the shares of Rugby Club Toulonnais still held by Mourad Boudjellal", said the club, currently in 5th place in the Top 14. Bernard Lemaître, businessman who made a fortune in the industry bio-pharmaceutical, therefore became president of the Var club, a position he had already held in the 1970s at the Mérignac club in Gironde.

Boudjellal converts into football

To lead and manage the club with four titles of champions of France and three titles of European champions, "Lemaître will rely on Frédéric Bir", one of his trusted men, who already held the position of managing director associated with within its Financière de la Seigneurie holding company, the statement said.

Mourad Boudjellal, who was originally to remain president until the end of the season, "retains an administrator position", even if he should now turn to football: he has expressed his wish to take over the club football from Sporting Toulon, which plays in the National Championship (3rd division).
