“I’m falling from the clouds. There had been nothing before ”. In a few words, the president of the board of directors of the Stade Rennais Jacques Delanoë summed up the general feeling. Even in the upper echelons of the Breton club, no one expected Olivier Létang to be ousted. Three days after the official announcement of the news by the Pinault family, the new interim president of the club granted a long interview to Ouest-France where he talks about his new role, but also the search for a new president.

He too was surprised

He learned the news Wednesday evening, from François-Henri Pinault, during a telephone exchange. The following day, Jacques Delanoë went to Kering's where he found Olivier Létang. A few minutes later, the former sports director of PSG is thanked. "Olivier Létang takes the thing with, I repeat, a lot of elegance", testifies Jacques Delanoë in Ouest-France .

The reasons for the departure were dissected in the press this weekend. Omnipresence of the president, complicated relationships with trainer Julien Stéphan, sports choices ... Jacques Delanoë remains elusive. "For questions of differences of view in the organization of the club and in the way of functioning, he thought it was better for their roads to separate," said the new interim president. "There is a lot of misunderstanding," said captain Damien Da Silva, who learned the news on Friday, the day before the derby against Brest (0-0).

The relationship with Stéphan? "I think it weighed, but ..."

Interviewed Saturday on the sidelines of the match against Brest, Julien Stéphan had recognized tense ties with Olivier Létang. "It is no secret that with the president, we have not always had very harmonious relations". Did this play a role in the ouster of the president? "I can think it weighed, but it was not mentioned," says Jacques Delanoë.

A successor to find within "three months"

Asked about Olivier Létang's successor, Jacques Delanoë explained that the club was looking for "a deputy managing director who knows football at a very high level". How soon? "Three months seems to me a reasonable time," he replied to Ouest-France .
