Despite the relentless attempts of the Egyptian club Zamalek president Mortada Mansour to show his adherence to his club's refusal to participate in the Super African match, through a press conference in which he reiterated his attack and his interest to the host country Qatar, what the actual situation is heading towards has caused widespread ridicule on social media.
This was reinforced by the club’s official website’s announcement that it intended to play the match against the Tunisian Esperance scheduled for February 14, and the appointment of Ismail Youssef as the head of the mission, which came despite Mansour’s confirmation in his press conference linking the participation to conditions that he said will be decided on Wednesday.
Mansour's prolonged press conference to explain his stance on participation witnessed various details, most notably the accusation of a number of athletes - including players in Al-Ahly Club - of phishing in favor of Qatar, and his claim to receive threats from a Qatari intelligence officer named Abu Sunaidah.
As part of his attempt to substantiate these allegations, Mansour displayed on a large screen during the conference what he said was a conversation between a Qatari intelligence officer and another person that included receiving the latter instructions to threaten him, but an error in the apparent history of the conversation revealed its fabrication, which necessitated a widespread mockery on the communication sites Social.
Local media could not ignore that fabrication, as the Al-Fajr newspaper website considered it a "fatal fall" that embarrassed the president of Zamalek.
The name of Mortada Mansour came second in the list of the most frequently used tags in the Twitter site in Egypt, following the press conference held by the President of Zamalek Club, and most of the interaction was based on the ridicule of the contents of the conference, which they considered as evidence of Mansour's retreat from his categorical refusal to participate in the Super.
In the context of their mockery of its retreat, a number of activists likened Egyptian artist Abdel-Fattah Al-Qasari to the movie “Al-Rayyis Hanafi”, which is best known for the phrase “I am my word. The earth can never descend.
Zamalek will play the African Super Cup after winning the Confederation title in front of the Moroccan Berkane Renaissance, while Tunisia's Esperance play after winning the African Champions League title against Moroccan Wydad.
