On Frunze Embankment in Moscow, two young people were detained on suspicion of illegal possession of drugs. During the verification of documents, one of them hit the face of an employee of the Russian Guard.

According to REN TV, the detainees were 2019 world boxing champion in the category of 81 kilograms Georgy Kushitashvili and bronze medalist of the European Championship in weight up to 52 kilograms Hovik Hovhannisyan.

“The incident occurred in the Central Administrative District of the capital in one of the residential buildings on Frunze Embankment. The employees of the non-departmental security service of the Main Directorate of the Russian Guard for the city of Moscow drew attention to two suspicious men who, when they saw a patrol car, tried to hide from the guards in one of the entrances, ”the agency’s official website said.

It is noted that employees of the Russian Guard have asked young people to present documents, but they “behaved aggressively” and “did not respond to legal requirements.”

“One of them attacked an employee of the Russian Guard, striking in the face. As a result, citizens were detained and taken to the territorial police department, ”the press service of the department said.

Law enforcement officers searched the site, during which a bag of powdered substance was found on suspects. During the examination, it became known that this is cocaine.

“A criminal case has been instituted against one of those detained for committing crimes under Russian law,” they concluded in the Russian Guard.

According to a TASS source, criminal proceedings were instituted against Kushitashvili, who hit an employee of the Russian Guard, under article 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Use of violence against a representative of the authorities”).

Later, a video from the scene appeared on the network. It shows how several employees of the department enter the entrance to the house on Frunzenskaya Embankment, after which they take the detainees out of the building.

The head of the Boxing Federation of Russia Umar Kremlev commented on the news of the detention of athletes. The Secretary General said that if the information is confirmed, serious sanctions await the athletes.

“We will now find out the information. If this is true, then there will be severe punishment. I want everything to be in accordance with the laws of the Russian Federation, as much as possible, so that the next time it would be disgraceful for them and others. Especially athletes. Of course, we still thank the employees of the Russian Guard, say “thank you” from the federation for their work, if all this is so. We will discuss thoroughly tomorrow. Those who bookmark their hands would be chopped off. How many schoolchildren are being bullied, so we got to the boxers, ”RIA Novosti quotes Kremlyova.

Also, the incident with the participation of Kushitashvili and Hovhannisyan was commented by the head coach of the Russian boxing team Viktor Farkhutdinov. He admitted that he had heard about the incident for the first time, and added that he was surprised by the behavior of the athletes.

“It's hard for me to believe it. This is a member of the Russian national team, a participant in the last world championship. In terms of discipline, I don’t have any questions for him at all: he and Hovhannisyan were supposed to go to the tournament in Italy, ”TASS quotes Farkhutdinov.

Eduard Kravtsov, general manager of the Russian national team, called the incident “a blow to the moral character of the team and the federation.”

“Huge work on the behavior of the guys is carried out not only at the training camp, but also outside the ring. In any case, I do not remember that he (Kushitashvili. - RT ) had problems with discipline and criticism at the training camp. And what was outside is hard for me to say. If everything is confirmed, then he must be punished according to the law of the Russian Federation, ”Kravtsov noted.

At the same time, the former mentor of the Russian team added that if he pleaded guilty, Kushitashvili “has nothing to do in the team with such a moral character.”
