Cameron Woki, the third line of the UBB. - Daniel Vaquero / SIPA

  • Five UBB players have been selected with the XV of France: Poirot, Jalibert, Cazeaux, Woki and Lucu.
  • Very moved, the young third line (21 years old) is one of the “bizuths”.
  • He hopes to play against England on February 2 but does not forget that "the hardest" begins.

So there will be five! Five players from the Union Bordeaux-Bègles were called by Fabien Galthié to prepare the first match of the VI Nations tournament with the XV of France against England, next February 2: Jefferson Poirot, Matthieu Jalibert, Cyril Cazeaux, Cameron Woki and Maxime Lucu. For the last three, this is a first.

In all, there are 19 “bizuths” in this first list of the new coach. There are many U20 world champions including the third line of the UBB the promising Cameron Woki. He is the author of a very good start to the season with the Girondin club, leader of the Top 14. Very moved, he confides in 20 Minutes.

How did you hear the news?

I was in class (he is in the third year of business and international marketing license) and when I go on break, I receive a call. It was Fabien Galthié. I was very moved at the time. I couldn't find the words, I had tears in my eyes. I immediately called my mother, then my brother.

Were you so surprised?

I was hoping to be there (in the list). But I was mainly expected by the press and as long as the coach did not say my name ... I did not necessarily expect it even if some of my friends had already joined this team (Bamba and Ntamack).

What does it represent?

For me the XV of France is the Grail! I can't get over how lucky I was to be held back. It is an honor, an immense pride. It is also a great responsibility.

Now the hardest part begins ...

Yes that's exactly it. The goal is to keep learning and stay there. It is not an end at all but simply a step. It's only a list in the end, I haven't shown anything yet. The hardest part is before me.

Are you going to meet your friends?

Yes, it's true. We don't often talk about it (about the 2023 World Cup in France). But we feel that we have a responsibility. Besides, whatever the event… As soon as you wear the France team jersey, you have to be up to the task. I think we can bring a little freshness.

Is this a form of reward for you?

I lived a complicated last season. I was very disappointed not to play anymore but especially with my performances. This season, I refocused on myself with the help of my family and Christophe Urios (the manager of the Union Bordeaux-Bègles) and his staff. I started again with a goal since the end of the World Cup: to play for the XV of France before 2023. Well, it could happen faster than expected (smiles).
