It was a dramatic start to the women's sprint finals in Val di Fiemme. Russian Natalia Nepryaeva had the chance to take seconds in leading Therese Johaug but got the worst possible start in the final and fell shortly after the start. Then that day was ruined for the Russian.

Things went better for Anamarija Lampic who won the sprint for the second time in this tour, closely followed by Astrid Jacobsen and Jessica Diggins in second and third place respectively.

No Swedish in the final

For the Swedes, it already ended in the semi-finals. Jonna Sundling and Maja Dahlqvist had the chance, but placed fifth in each heat.

Before that, Ebba Andersson and Elina Rönnlund had been eliminated in the quarterfinals.

For Charlotte Kalla, it became a lead day. Cold who had it heavy throughout the tour had to see himself knocked out already in the qualifying.

"It felt dumb," said a few-worded Call after she left.

In other words, less good day for the Swedes.
