Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola said his team needed to "pray" in order to catch Liverpool at the top of the English Premier League soccer.

Guardiola reiterated that the gap separating his team from Liverpool is very large and difficult to overcome, but he indicated at the same time that the team will continue attempts.

Guardiola said in press statements: "We need to take more serious work, play better and pray for it."

Guardiola talked about the injury of key players in the team, including defender Emerci Laporte and striker Sergio Aguero.

"I think the team is great, I love this team, but sometimes there are injury problems," Guardiola said. "We don't expect our top players to lose in six months. We suffer in some positions but we apply our style in general."

Guardiola praised the Liverpool team, which scored 55 of the 57 points it had in front of them in the league matches until now, and its record is still without defeats in the league this season, as it continues to progress towards crowning the league title for the first time since 1990.

"Liverpool are amazing, he is the European champion and he wasted only two points in the league, so we have to congratulate him ... We were not supposed to separate such a gap, but that is what happened," Guardiola said.
