Sammy Kiprop Kitwara , half marathon world champion with the Kenyan team - and individual bronze - in 2010, has been suspended 16 months for doping, reports the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) after testing positive last March in the marathon from Seoul, in which he qualified seventh with a time of 2h09: 52.

Kitwara, 33, tested positive for Terbutaline, a product used to fight asthma.

The AIU has announced that the athlete has accepted the suspension, against which he will not file an appeal. According to his explanations, he had taken the medication without knowing that it was prohibited unless authorized for therapeutic use.

Kitwara was second in the 2014 Chicago marathon with a 2h04: 28 mark, just behind the world record holder, his compatriot Eliud Kipchoge . In 2017 he won the Valencia marathon with 2h05: 15, then the best brand achieved in Spanish territory
