The karateca Ricardo Barbero died last weekend because of a heart attack at age 35. The Spanish had been twice runner-up in Europe in the 84 kilos category and had won 22 national titles in several categories. One year, in fact, he won four trophies after winning in singles, teams, clubs and Open category.

The premature death of Barbera, which was known as 'Richi', was announced by the Royal Spanish Karate Federation (RFEK) through its social networks. "From the RFEK we want to remember and fire a good competitor who fought with the shield of Spain in many international championships. We want to give our deepest condolences to his family and friends for this irreparable loss that has shocked us all. DEP", he published The federative entity. Condolences to which he joined shortly after the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE): "A sad news for Spanish karate."

Barber trained under the command of Miguel Ángel López , one of the most important technicians of Spanish karate. López was a national coach, master of the current world number two, Damián Quintero , and the first to convene for an international event the current world leader of the kata modality, Sandra Sánchez .

Quintero was precisely the first to show his regret at knowing the death of Barbero, who has shocked Spanish karate. "I was fortunate to be able to share tatami with you. We will not forget you," wrote the karateca that points to a medalist at the next Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
