Liverpool escaped the Mexican ambush of Monterrey and grabbed a 2-1 victory today, Wednesday, in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup currently being held in Qatar.
The first half ended with a 1-1 draw, as Monterrey made a remarkable tactical performance and the team rejected any risk facing the European champions.
Liverpool were the first to score by the Guinean Napi Keita in the 12th minute, but Rogelio Funes Maury scored the equalizer for Monterrey in the 14th minute.

The tie remained in place until the last minute of stoppage time before the Brazilian substitute Roberto Firmino snatched a goal in the first minute of stoppage time.

Liverpool qualified for the final of the championship, which will be played next Saturday, against the Brazilian Flamingo at Khalifa International Stadium in Doha.
Flamingo qualified for the final by beating Al-Hilal Saudi 3-1 yesterday, Tuesday, in the first match of the championship's golden square.
Monterrey will meet Al-Hilal on Saturday at the same field in the third and fourth place match.
