Fabio Quartararo will leave for the sixth time this season from the 'pole position' in the GP of the Valencian Community of MotoGP, the last race of the calendar, aiming for a victory that would be the first for a Frenchman in the premier category since 1999. It was this same circuit Ricardo Tormo where Régis Laconi won 20 years ago at the controls of a Yamaha, the same brand with which Quartararo now runs. Then, the races were still with two-stroke 500cc bikes.

Quartararo, born the same year of Laconi's victory, already has six podiums in his first season in MotoGP, although no victory has yet been scored. "For a first season, being 'rookie of the year' and making six 'poles' and six podiums is very good," he said.

The young Frenchman, 20, was the only driver to roll below 1:30, although he could only beat Marquez, the current world champion in 32 thousandths, while Jack Miller (Ducati) will complete the first line of the grid.

"My goal was first line. We know how fast the Yamaha are in one lap, especially Quartararo, but we will see on Sunday," said Márquez, who has won 11 of the 18 races of 2019, two of them in the last meters before Quartararo

The Valencia GP will also be the last race for Jorge Lorenzo, triple world champion, who could only finish sixteenth.

Navarro and Migno

In Moto2, Jorge Navarro (Speed Up) achieved his fourth pole of the season, beating Jorge Martín (KTM) in just 17 thousandths, while Stefano Manzi (MV Augusta) will start from third place. Alex Márquez (Kalex), Marc's younger brother, disappointed with a fifteenth, perhaps, off-balance by the rumors about his candidacy for Lorenzo's position at Honda.

In Moto3, Andrea Migno (KTM) will be the first, ahead of Marcos Ramírez (Honda) and Jaume Masiá, who completes the first line. The already world champion, Lorenzo Dalla Porta, will start from seventh position.
