New figures from the Public Health Agency show how gambling abuse has almost doubled over the past decade.
Now the government wants to tighten the law in terms of game advertising.
- We will severely limit game advertising and put an end to the aggressive game advertising. We will have proposals for this already on our table next year and we will ensure that the legislation changes during this mandate period for the aggressive game advertising will be removed, says Social Security Minister Ardalan Shekarabi to SVT Sport.
"Total ban on all advertising"With the new Gaming Act this year, a licensing system was introduced for gaming companies in Sweden and in the wake of this also measures.
Game break: Players can switch themselves off for different periods of time from games at the gaming companies licensed in Sweden.
Right to support: Players are entitled to support efforts for their gambling addiction, according to the new social services team.
Duty of care: The gaming companies themselves have a duty of care which means that they themselves are required to identify problem gamblers.
Is advertising in the arenas something you can regulate?
"It is one of the things that the investigation is looking at now, if you are going to put a stop to game advertising in certain contexts and we have looked at experiences from the UK where you have introduced such restrictions and Italy where you now have a total ban on all game advertising," says Shekarabi .
