A tournament was held in Takatsuki-cho, Yamagata Prefecture, as a representative selection for the 50-kilometer race of men's athletics for the Tokyo Olympics. Masatoru Kawano won the new record of 3 hours 36 minutes 45 seconds in the breaking time, and the Japan Athletics Federation Meet the selection criteria and have been selected as a representative.
It was the second time after Yusuke Suzuki, who won the gold medal at last month's world championship, as the representative for the men's 50km race.
Kawano updated the Japan record that Suzuki marked in April, 2 minutes 22 seconds.
