The United States has won two straight football World Cups and especially in connection with the summer World Cup they got a lot of attention both on and off the pitch. Many of the players are world stars and, unlike most other national teams, they gather quite often and for so long at a time.

Combining it with league games in NWSL means that there is not much time left.

- We are pulled away and then they suddenly tell us to come back. We are pushed in many different directions, says Dunn, who wants to see that NWSL works harder so that championship years will not be so divided.

Many national team players were lent out of their club to prepare for the World Cup and then play the championship. When they had won, it was very short rest before they would play again.

- The only way to manage it is to split it into different periods. When you are there you are there and when you are here you are here, says goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher, who plays final with her Chicago Red Stars tonight.

Her coach Rory Dames sees big problems with the current program.

- When the national team players come here they risk their bodies. And if you mean that all American players do not have to come here, it will be difficult to keep the best players here or to get the best hit, he says.
