Retired Major General Ahmed Al Sayegh won the presidency of the athletics federation by acclamation, a day before the general assembly scheduled for Monday, after his rival Saad Al Muhairi withdrew his candidacy from the elections, Al Sayegh told Emirates Today.
The athletics elections will be limited to the women's seat, which is contested by Al-Ahly youth candidate Sarah Faraidouni and Arwa Mohamed Said of Al-Jazira Al-Hamra.
The four candidates for the membership have won by acclamation for the complementary period of the Board of Directors of the Union 2019-2020, namely, Abdullah Khamis Buamim candidate of Al Nasr, Khalifa Al Kindi candidate of Fujairah Club, Sultan Al Zaabi candidate of Al Jazira Al Hamra Club, and Mohammed Al Ali candidate of Arab Club.
Major General Ahmed Al Sayegh said that he will work with transparency and credibility and teamwork will be the motto of the next phase of the athletics federation. Sayegh continued: «We will open a new page with all sports institutions, whether the General Authority for Sport or the Olympic Committee and clubs, to restore the game to the place it deserves and achieve the required successes according to the existing capabilities, without paying attention to what happened in the past».
He added: «Athletics have suffered wounds and trauma in the recent period, and this wound must stop once the adoption of the current board of directors full membership, and we will have a collective plan to work and build according to a scientific and sound vision that will participate the entire game system without exclusion for anyone, we want to harness our energies To serve the mother of games.
He explained: «I am a military man and consider myself all the time, and at any location, a soldier to serve the country. “I believe in honesty and work out of love and sincerity, and my primary goal will be to support and assist athletes and maths, to achieve achievements at the international level, and to raise the banner of the nation on the podium.”
He pointed out: “I have great confidence in the board members who have been nominated to take over the task, pending the identification of the female element, in order to work together in accordance with the principle of the integrated work team in order to upgrade the work system and achieve the development that we are looking for. The importance of arriving for this place, and seeks to work on the patch and leave a footprint and not only for the post ».
The president of the new athletics federation revealed that as soon as the entire electoral process is over, he will meet with the members, to draw up action lines for the next phase and disclose them to the media and clubs in a transparent framework, which will be the work of the federation from day one.
He said: `` We cannot reach the goals we want without a clear plan, accompanied by a working team and we will continue our meetings with club officials, coaches, referees, administrators and others, to avoid any disadvantages that have occurred in the past and build our business strategy according to the possibilities available to us.
