In addition to the marathon competition, in which the Swedes Johanna Bäcklund, Charlotta Fougberg and Cecilia Norrbom participate, there are only qualifiers on this first day.

For Sweden, there are five athletes who will try to make it to the final.

Beat the world elite in May

First up is Thobias Montler, who started the season strong. In May, he beat the entire world elite at the Diamond League competition in Stockholm. But shortly thereafter, he injured his knee, was away for over two months and then found it difficult to get back to the top form.

- He has opportunities for a medal as it looked the beginning of the season. After all, he jumped at 8.40 at the Bauhaus gala. Then he got the injury and has fought back and done some competitions, but he may not have reached that level, says SVT Sports expert Kajsa Bergqvist, and continues:

- First he has to get through the qualifying competition, and we should not take anything for granted. But he is an outstanding championship runner and has set a personal record almost every time. If he does it again now, he has all the possibilities, but I think we should pull down expectations.

"Nothing is given"

However, Bergqvist has good expectations on Angelica Bengtsson in pole vault and Erika Kinsey in vault.

- We should have them on to the final. But nothing is given. They must have a good feeling in the body and cope with the press, says Kajsa Bergqvist.
