- I am always reminded that I am 37 years old. But I don't think about it much, says Justin Gatlin to SVT Sport.

Christian Coleman has had a windy late summer after missed stay reports risked keeping him out of the championship. In the last heat of the trial, he, as a superior leader, was able to hit the beat and cross the finish line as Friday's only man for ten seconds. The question marks raised about his form should be erased.

Justin Gatlin promises more

Question marks have also been raised about the form of the reigning world champion ahead of the championship. He limped to finish at a modest 10.29 during his last race, in Zagreb in early September.

During Friday's qualifying, Justin Gatlin made it to the semi-finals without taking out more than necessary. 10.06 was enough to win his heat ahead of Canadian Andre De Grasse of 10.13 and the question of whether the 37-year-old has better times in itself is still unanswered.

- It felt good, easy and controlled. I think I can do even better tomorrow, says Justin Gatlin.

The challenger strode

Friday's attempt seemed to be spared from falling. Then the Nigerian who delivered the second fastest time of the year disappeared from the starting lists.

Divine Ododuro, who this summer ran 100 meters at 9.86 and was painted as a possible contender for the medals, ran late from his attempt.
