This is the first sensation of the Rugby World Cup 2019. On Wednesday, September 25, for its entry into the tournament, Uruguay has offered the scalp Fiji, carried by a Berchesi impeccable foot. The Fijians, who have scored five tries, still pull out both bonuses (offensive and defensive), but must now achieve a feat to join the quarterfinals.

Despite a precocious banderilla (Dolokoto, 5th), Fiji began to bow down after about 20 minutes of play, when they took the score at 12-7. Heroic in defense and realistic in front, the Teros scored two tries by Diana (22nd, 12-14) and Cat (26th, 12-24) to tip in the lead at the break.

Five tries for a defeat

Back from the locker room, despite three new Fijian side tests (Ratuniyarawa in the 48th and Matawalu in the 67th and 80th), the Uruguayans responded perfectly to the foot, Berchesi succeeding both attempts to win (61st, 75th) to maintain a lead of three points on the final whistle (27-30).

A short but precious success that puts the Uruguayans in third place in a group D where Fiji, fourth after two games, ultimately only two units. In this context, it is difficult to imagine that the two qualifying places promised before the start of the competition to Australia and Wales can escape them.
