Overcoming the setbacks to the big stage “forward” Para swimming Tokaibayashi August 21 19:30

Paralympic Tokaibayashi University, who is expected to play an active part in next year's Tokyo Paralympics, 20 years old. Men's 100m butterfly, world record holder of intellectual disability class. Overcoming the frustrating experience of losing pressure, we are moving forward on the road to the Tokyo Games.

Tokai Hayashi is practicing with healthy high school students 6 days a week at a swimming club in Yamagata City.
I always try to be positive.

This is supported by the “note that it has been done”.

I'm just writing what I can do, from the little things in everyday life to the things that worked out in practice.

The reason I started writing notes was a big frustration I experienced three years ago.

Tokaibayashi, who has a mild intellectual disability and is diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, one of the developmental disabilities. I'm not good at catching what I'm told and pulling out my strength.

At that time, Tokai Hayashi was expected to be "a definite representative of the Rio de Janeiro Paralympics", but at the representative selection meeting, expectations were overwhelming and he was unable to put out his power.

“I was very regretted because I didn't break the standard dispatch record for any event. I felt that I was going to quit my life, and I always wanted to quit.”

After that, a long slump.
My father's recommendation was to start with a “note that I could do” to break the vicious circle that would lead to negative thinking without producing results.

Thanks to the effects of the notebook, I gradually gained confidence and now I can concentrate on swimming.

“I am not thinking too much about what was bad, and I am trying to do everything I can now.”

There was a race that showed positive feelings.
The world championship representative screening held in March.
Although it was an important race that led to the Tokyo Paralympics, Tokaibayashi did not break his swimming even under heavy pressure.

Losing to the Rio bronze medalist, the result was 2nd.
Still, after the race, the expression that said, “It was a positive start from the beginning. I thought it was good because the race was incredible in the second half,” was full of fulfillment.

Tokai Hayashi was selected as the representative of the World Championship held in September for the second event of 100 meters butterfly and 200 meters personal medley.
If you win this tournament, you will be selected as the Japan National Team for the Tokyo Paralympics.

“If you can be confident in each race, I ’m going to have a lot of fun.”
