German road bike champion Pascal Ackermann has won the second stage of the 102th Giro d'Italia. The debutant won on Sunday after 205 kilometers from Bologna to Fucecchio the victory in the mass sprint ahead of the Italian champions Elia Viviani and the Australian Caleb Ewan. Thus, the 25-year-old has reached his big goal right at the first sprint of the Italian Tour, for Ackermann it was the fourth win of the season.

The second stage did not affect the overall ranking. Slovenian Primoz Roglic is 19 seconds ahead of British Vuelta champion Simon Yates after his superior victory in the opening race. Altstar Vincenzo Nibali finished 22 seconds back in third place overall.
