On the occasion of the annual "Women's sport always" operation in France, RFI has been studying the disciplines in which French women have excelled more than the French in recent years. All at times, in a certain anonymity.

BASKETBALL

The three-colored basketball players have finished on the podium of the European Championship of Nations (EuroBasket) seven times in the last ten editions, winning notably the EuroBasket in 2009. It's better than the French men's team, four times over. the podium since 1999. The girls also won the silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games.

As far as clubs are concerned, the level is incomparable between men and women. In the last five years, women's teams have not won many cups in Europe. But they outrageously dominated continental contests in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and they remain significantly more successful on the European scene than their male counterparts.

FOOTBALL ... CLUBS

The French are world champions in the title, as everyone knows. The French, they hope to finally get their first star on July 7 at home. Between the "Blues" and the "Blue", there is undoubtedly a gulf.

But the same can be said about the sometimes mediocre results of men's clubs in European cups, especially compared to those of women's clubs that shine in the Champions League (C1). It's quite simple, for ten years, there is almost always a French club in the final of the C1 ladies. In general, Olympique Lyonnais (OL) and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). OL and PSG even contested the trophy at the 2017 edition. A final 100% tricolor totally unimaginable in men ...

JUDO

Yes, Teddy Riner is the greatest hexagonal judoka of all time, or even history. But the double Olympic champion and ten times world champion is a bit like the tree that hides the forest on the French side. While on the women's side, the pool is much richer.

For proof, since the Olympic Games 2008, the French have collected 23 medals (10 gold, 3 silver and 10 bronze) in major competitions (Olympic Games and world championships), half of which for the Riner alone. The other nine medalists shared the rest. However, at the same time, fourteen French women distinguished themselves, winning 32 medals including eleven titles.

RUGBY A XV

The parallel between the XV of France masculine and feminine is cruel for the men. Because the two selections usually face the same nations almost at the same time. And generally, the "Blue" far out much better than their colleagues. They have won three times the tournament Six Nations in recent years while the last coronation of "Blues" in this competition dates back to 2010.

In the World Cup, the French women have missed the podium only twice in eight editions, while their compatriots have fallen white four times. And the gap is widening between men and women, in terms of results, in recent years.

TAEKWONDO

To see French trophies, at the Olympics and Worlds, please look at the women's side. Since Beijing 2008, the French have still won 13 medals including 4 gold. In the men's ranks, however, it is almost famine, with Steven Barclais' only bronze medal at the 2013 world championships. Only in the European championships are the "Blues" distinguished. regularly. And again, they do it much less often than the "Blue" at the Euro.
