The German women's handball team has suffered the first defeat at the European Championships in France. Against Romania, the team of national coach Henk Groener lost the second group game 24:29 (11:14). In the meantime, Germany was even back with nine goals, but at the end made the result more bearable.

The young German selection, on average more than three years younger than the Romanians, received a lesson in both the defense and the offensive. The opponents got off to a better start and immediately took the lead and subsequently played their experience. In the attack Romania came again and again to free litters and seized aggressively on the defensive. Germany, on the other hand, often took too much risk and often failed against goalkeeper Denisa-Stefania Dedu.
