Cameroon has been deprived of hosting the Africa Cup in 2019. As the African Football Association (Caf) announced on Friday after a meeting of the Executive Committee, the African champion will not be played as planned in the summer of next year in the West African country.

The tournament will take place from 15 June to 13 July. By the end of the year, a new organizer is to be found. As a promising alternative candidate, the multiple World Cup candidate Morocco is traded. For the first time since 1972, Cameroon was to host the Africa Cup again next year.

For some time there had been reservations about Cameroon as host. One reason for this is considerable delays in infrastructure projects from the association's point of view. Cameroon had come under additional pressure because the finals had been extended after the award of 16 to 24 teams. In addition, three out of five venues did not have the necessary accommodation, the Confederation noted.

The security situation in the country had also created concerns. There, among other things, the English-speaking minority is forcibly suppressed by the French-speaking majority and has protested for some time against it.
