Former coach under 18 in Montreal, Yoann Damet has never played professionally.

Yoann Damet of France took the leadership of Cincinnati on Tuesday, making him 29 years and 53 days the youngest coach in the history of the North American Football League (MLS), the MLS announced on Wednesday.

Damet, who was previously Cincinnati's assistant coach, broke the early record for an MLS coach in 1996, the year of the first season of the North American Championship. Roy Wegerle was 32 when he took command of Colorado for the final game of the 1996 season. The record for a full-time coach is 33, for Ben Olsen, appointed DC United coach in August 2010 .

Three seasons in Montreal. Damet has succeeded, temporarily, the South African Alan Koch, fired after eleven matches. Cincinnati, who is playing his first season in MLS, is 11th in the Eastern Conference with eight points and only two wins. Damet joined the Ohio coaching staff in March 2017 after spending three seasons in Montreal where he was in charge of the under-18 team. Damet, who has never played professionally, will make his MLS coach debut on Saturday against Montreal, led by another Frenchman, Rémi Garde.
