Dubai announces the longest desert race in «Almarmoom Reserve»

Dubai Sports Council (DSC) has unveiled the world's longest running Marathon marathon, 270 km into the desert, with a total prize pool of US $ 80,000 (AED 300,000), to be held from December 11 to 15, Open to all.

The race is the longest marathon in the desert sands to attract attention to the Al Marmoum protected area and to increase tourism promotion for this important area of ​​40,000 hectares, representing 10% of the Emirate of Dubai.

The Al Marmoum area combines the elements of natural beauty, where there are different plants, animals and rare birds, and possesses the natural ingredients that qualify them to host international and local sporting events.

The Organizing Committee divided the desert race into three categories. The first category competes for 270 km. The race continues for five days. The second category has a 100 km race. The third category is 50 km.

The race village will be built next to the lakes of Al Marmoum area, where it will include tents for medical assistance. Stations will be set up at equal distances throughout the race track to record the time and provide the contestants with water and juices and a medical team equipped with the latest medical equipment at each station.

This came during a press conference held yesterday in the presence of the Director of Sports Events at the Dubai Sports Council, Ghazi Al Madani, the Director of the Environment Department at Dubai Municipality, Engineer Alia Al Harmoudi, the UAE Athlete, Dr. Khalid Al Suwaidi and the world champion in the Alcatra Marathon, Janet Mertz.

Ghazi Al Madani said that this race will be an added addition to the annual sporting events calendar hosted by Dubai and will contribute to enhancing the diversity of the Dubai Sports Council and the organizers of events to provide the opportunity for sports fans and the public of different nationalities to follow different sports tournaments.
