French defender and world champion Raphaël Varane went quietly Wednesday morning at RC Lens, where he was trained, to meet and greet players, according to concordant sources.

On photos published on social networks, it appears his gold medal and a scarf in the colors of blood and gold around the neck, with several players at the training center of Gaillette.

During his visit, which lasted about an hour, the 25-year-old Lillois gave former Club President Gervais Martel the jersey he wore for the France-Uruguay quarter-final match (2 -0), in which he had scored the first goal, of the head, according to the club.

The Real Madrid defender also met club employees, players and children on a summer camp.

"He has incredible respect for the people who were with him in his first moments," Martel told AFP. "Lens remains his club of heart (...) He made a little speech, quite exceptional" .

Varane is expected to return at the end of July for a public ceremony in Hellemmes, where he began at the age of 7 before being spotted by Lens two years later, according to the president of the club of the suburbs of Lille.
