THE THEME OF THE DAY

An old case becomes a new problem for Trump

At a high school party, Christine Blasey Ford has feared for her life: A young man, "drunk drunk," have thrown herself on her, tried to tear her clothes off her, while her mouth closed. She could only escape when a second man in the room with them threw herself at the attacker. This is how Ford, now a professor, describes it in an interview with The Washington Post. She also names the alleged perpetrator: Brett Kavanaugh, candidate for a Supreme Court judge and US President Donald Trump's favorite candidate (read a portrait of Kavanaugh).

He wanted to record the nomination Kavanaughs just before the intermediate elections as a success for his government - but that could fail now. More and more politicians are calling for Kavanaugh's confirmation of the important judicial office to be postponed at least until the case is cleared 30 years ago. Kavanaugh himself denies the allegations. The second man in the room now plays a central role - but he does not want to comment on the incident.

The "Washington Post" quoted in support of Ford's statements from internal records of her psychotherapist. In 2012, Ford had reported in therapeutic sessions of the attack and spoke of a "rape attempt". Kavanaugh's name is not explicitly mentioned in the documents. Several Senators want Ford to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Read more about the backgrounds here.

THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

"I just have to cross the street and find something for you."

That said the French President Emmanuel Macron to an unemployed gardener - and receives massive criticism for it. Therefore, he must now accept the charge of arrogance and disrespect. Why his appearance becomes a real problem, read here.

THE NUMBER OF THE DAY

150000

Approximately so many jobs are currently vacant in German craft enterprises, estimates the Central Association of German Crafts (ZDH). Almost half of the companies have difficulty finding staff. Reasons for this are on the one hand the declining school-leaving grades, at the same time more and more high school graduates decided to study.

MY EVENING

The recommendation for your closing time

You can read this: Lukas Rietzschel draws a milieu in the east of Germany in his novel "Fist into the World", which has the feeling that it is left over. At least the incidents in Chemnitz, after which half of the country searches for explanations for Saxon conditions, make "Fist into the world" an important contribution. My colleague Felix Bayer has been looking for motives with Rietzchel in Görlitz.

I wish you a nice finishing time.
