What happened on October 2 in the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul? Journalist Jamal Khashoggi, a prominent royal critic, has disappeared since visiting the building. Turkish investigators and intelligence officials believe that Khashoggi was murdered and dismembered by agents of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, also known by his initials MbS, who had flown in from Riyadh. The prince and the murder

How a horrible crime shakes world politics

"He wanted it brutal": The former FBI agent Ali Soufan is convinced that the next Saudi king wanted to set an example. "The message behind this murder is that if you are against me and want to be dangerous to me, then I'll beat you back."

How the case shakes the world politics, describes the SPIEGEL in its new issue. Ex-Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel sees himself confirmed by the affair in his assessment of the Saudi Arabian rulers. "This kind of violence we know from the darkest times of the Cold War," he told the SPIEGEL. US President Trump, on the other hand, is still holding on to Saudi Arabia, also because of billions of euros in armaments orders.

THE NUMBER OF THE DAY

68

At the weekend, the Afghans are to elect a new parliament. But the Taliban have called for a boycott - and made an attack on the police chief of the restless province of Kandahar. No matter how the election ends, it is already clear that at least 68 women will join the next Afghan parliament. So many seats are reserved for female politicians. Altogether there are more than 2500 candidates, writes my colleague Dominik Peters.

OPINION

Most talked about comments, interviews, essays

With the shotgun: The leadership of FC Bayern has spoken with a vehement media scolding to speak. That is their right. Above all, the press conference makes it clear how much the club needs renewal, commented my colleague Peter Ahrens the performance of Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeneß.

Green wins, the others do the work: their politicians are fresh, young, relaxed. The suggestion of Harald Schmidt for the perfect division of labor can be seen here in the video.

You Germans have watches, we have time: In Germany, punctuality is a religion and the calendar is sacred. And who refuses a piece of cake here, gets no more offered. We Arabs think this is very strange, says the Syrian Samer Tannous.

"Laschet has what it takes to be chancellor": FDP leader Christian Lindner and NRW Minister President Armin Laschet can imagine forming a new federal government together when the Chancellor is gone.

MY EVENING

The recommendation for your weekend

What you can do: Previously, a broadcast could be like "Wetten, dass ..?" bring the whole family in front of the TV. There's no more today. But with a sorcerer's apprentice it could work. Sat.1 shows from 20:15 clock "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince", so the sixth part of the saga, where it is not only about the fight against the evil Voldemort goes, but is also already smooched. So there is something for every generation.

And on Sunday you should enjoy the fall with a walk. The role of fog in the autumn weather is explained by our expert Jörg Kachelmann. But with the beginning of next week, there is rain.

I wish you a nice finishing time.
