The PSC saved the socialist honor in Catalonia. The formation managed to win in votes although it was a bittersweet victory since Jaume Collboni did not manage to be the most voted in Barcelona but it was possible to recover other provincial capitals as well as expand distances in the so-called 'red belt'.

In Barcelona the 'anti-Colau' vote was imposed. The former mayor and candidate for Trias per Barcelona, Xavier Trias, won again in the city 12 years after governing it for four years. He was defeated by Ada Colau and in these elections of May 28, 2023 he has hit back. Trias carried out a campaign focused on attacking the policies of the current mayor, such as the problems of Barcelona in insecurity and the obstacles of the 'commons' to the main economic engine of the city such as tourism but maintaining its own profile with respect to Junts Per Catalunya and Carles Puigdemont, as shown by the fact that on the ballot she hid the acronym by putting her name first.

Half a year ago Junts decided to recover Trias, 76, after the polls gave disastrous results to the party. His profile linked to the old Convergència, as he himself recognizes, is very far from the independence radicalism and that is why he has managed to agglutinate a lot of votes that were tired of the policies of the 'commons' and the socialists. However, it remains to be seen if the victory in councilors and percentage of votes is enough to govern since he will need support. "I will be mayor of Barcelona," Trias said.

Trias won with 11 mayors, the PSC has 10 while Barcelona en Comú has 9. Governance in the city will be a lace of bobbins. We will have to see the agreements in the coming weeks to form a government but ERC, which was in fourth position with 5 councilors, could facilitate a tripartite government in the city, with the socialist Jaume Collboni at the head plus the 'commons', as long as the Republicans think about their struggle with Junts for the independence votes in the face of the regional elections in two years, since governing in Barcelona would allow Puigdemont to take heart. Complete the Barcelona Consistory the PP with 4 councilors and Vox that enter with 2 leaving out Citizens or Valents.

Precisely, Vox became the great surprise of these regional elections in Catalonia by entering the main town halls, even above the independence forces in some of them. The PSC won in the red belt, absorbing the majority of votes of Citizens, as well as in Lleida and Tarragona, in which it recovered the Mayor's Office, which 4 years ago got ERC in the two capitals. In Girona, traditionally a sovereigntist fiefdom and the only capital in which Junts governed, the socialist candidate Silvia Paneque won although Guanyem Girona, the formation led by Lluc Salellas and in which the CUP is, could ally with ERC and Junts to get the Mayor's Office. Vox and PP enter with one mayor each.

The PSC also won in the Red Belt except in two fiefdoms in which the PP won: Badalona, with an absolute majority with Xavier García Albiol, and Castelldefels, with Manu Reyes. In addition, Nuria Marín in Hospitalet and Nuria Parlon in Santa Coloma revalidated the Mayor's Office, leaving far behind the ERC candidate Gabriel Rufián, who failed to mobilize the sovereigntist electorate.
