Political overturn in Valencia, the most symbolic square for the PP. María José Catalá, Carlos Mazón's right-hand man, will become the next mayor of the capital. The popular return to the City of Valencia after losing it traumatically in 2015, when Joan Ribó to the emblematic Rita Barberá of the consistory.

The resurgence of the PP, which completely engulfs Ciudadanos, implies recovering the throne as the most voted party. With 97% of the vote counted, the PP exceeds 147,000 votes, more than a third of the total. Keep in mind that in 2019 it was close to 85,000, while Compromís did not even reach 107,000.

The PP thus unseats Compromís, which paradoxically had in the Valencian capital its main bastion. However, Ribó's party, for which Yolanda Díaz asked for the vote at the last minute, regresses significantly and does not reach 100,000 votes (it stays with 24%), while Unidas Podemos is still unable to re-enter the consistory. The leader of Sumar can see what was going to be the pillar of her platform in Valencia falter.

PP and Vox, on the contrary, add the 17 councilors that mark the barrier of the absolute majority, without even needing Citizens, which disappears in this legislature and loses the six councilors it had. If PP raises five councilors to 13, Vox doubles its representation with four councilors. Compromís loses the Mayor's Office when a councilor retreats, going from ten to nine. The one that keeps its representation intact is the PSOE of Sandra Gómez, who until now served as deputy mayor and achieves 19% of the votes.

In his first assessment of the results, Ribó congratulated Catalá and made it clear that, unlike what Barbera did, he will hand over the baton to Catalá. Even so, he regretted that "what has happened is that a great wave of blue has come", because the PP will govern in the three provincial capitals and in some of the most populated municipalities. "We have not been able to overcome these great trends that have been imposed on us from Madrid," said Ribó.
