This was stated by the director of the fourth European department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Yuri Pilipson.

"If the local authorities decide that the most suitable candidate for contractors for the new joint venture is the Russian side, then we will wait for an official proposal," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Pilipson noted that the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant confirms that Russia and Turkey are able to "implement grandiose projects despite external opposition."

On April 27, Russia and Turkey officially formalized the delivery of nuclear fuel to power unit No. 1 of the Akkuyu NPP, Rosatom handed over a certificate for it to the Turkish Ministry of Energy.

Construction work at Unit 1 of Akkuyu NPP is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2023.
